What if it did workout?
I’ve always wondered why some people achieve their dreams and some don’t. Coming to realise there’s so many factors from environmental conditioning to mindset (which you could argue is a by-product of your environment.) This list of qualities could be 703 pages long, which is why there’s so many people who offer incredible advice, within millions of different categories.
Rather than going around in circles, what truly stands out to me is the ability to imagine a different future. A vision, and taking aligned action each and every day. Like Denzel Washington said:
What if you could achieve what you want? Ok cool, let’s imagine that. But what are the practical steps to get there? Often when we set out on any new journey, we're always trying to find the quickest, best and most cost effective way to get there. Often leading to no actual progress being made. I think this Alex Hormozi quote is bang on:
Basically what he's saying is: rather than making it perfect, start. Learn the lessions along the way not before actually starting the process. So as per tradition, lets get practical.
We need something to aim at, something to produce, rather than just potentially produce. This is where having a vision can and will change the game. Wether that's: getting a promotion, a dream home, starting a business, starting a YouTube channel or saving $X amount is irrelevent. This process is scaleable. A grand vision can be broken down in to bite size pieces so that we can actually get there...
•Vision - What is your dream? What do you want to bring into the world? Defining this is critical so we can head in a direction. It might be the "wrong" one, but it’s better than wandering around hoping you’ll end up somewhere. Imagine a captain of a boat leaving port, with the thoughts of "Hmmm, not sure where to go, lets just go that way..." He has no idea where he will end up, but if he has a direction, at at least he's heading in the right direction. You get the idea.
•Goals - With a vision in place, we can now decide what smaller goals need to be made to reach the vision. Dissect the vision into segments.
•Daily action - What critical tasks to achieve my goal can I do today? However small/big or boring. What are the essential actions? Dissect the goals into daily actions.
•Now - What can I do, in this very moment to achieve a daily action? (Which then completes a goal, becoming one step closer to the vision.)
take a look at this graphic to understand what I mean.
An example of mine was:
Vision: Have a website with a shop and blog section.
Goals: Make a website. Have a product. Write a blog.
Daily Action: Choose a website building platform. Create the landing page and shop section.
Now: Look for website building platform. Once completed. Move onto the next daily action.
To actually apply the above concepts, creating a daily power-list of 5 items is an essential step to ensure your vision is to actualise. Nothing crazy, just 5 achievable tasks. 5. No more. No less. (Let’s apply last weeks letter in here too, use discipline and no compromise to execute the list.)
Check out my FREE power-list journal download in the offers section of my website if you would like a place to actualise your power-list.
Once you complete the power-list, you can enjoy your down time. Watch Netflix, do whatever you want.
I think this is an overlooked aspect. So many people don't want to go to work, get home and work, then sleep. But if you win your power-list every day then you can do whatever you want when it's done. While also knowing deep down that you’re working towards your dream life each and every day, which in itself builds more drive to "do the things". The trick is, never skip a day. No compromise.
What if life can be more, more than you ever dreamed possible? The only way to know is to go all in. And the only way to know what to go all in on, is to have a vision, followed by: goals, daily action, and now.
Now. Make a list. Go.
Feeling inspired and fired up! Let’s live my friends, let’s get every last drop from this one chance we have at life! #ELD
