If your reading this your probably know I'm a fully qualified Personal Trainer, and that the human body has been a deep passion of mine since I can remember.
After all, this body, this incredible system of adaptation is all we really have in this human experience...
One of my favourite observations in animals is when a dog or cat falls over or whatever mistake it may be. The Animal shakes and gets rid of the energy it just received/created from that mistake. In my eyes it is their way of regulating emotions so that they can continue forward. To feel safe again in the present moment.
Are humans really so different?
This brings me to my personal discoveries of the body's ability to regulate itself. The trick is for us to get out of the way... Easier said than done.
Imagine how often we suppress the body's desire to move, to regulate itself. How we hold our breath and create more tension, leading to more emotional tension.
Speaking from my experience, I do it a lot! And would consider myself pretty aware of my body.
Let's take a nosy at some practicality:
Anxiousness and many other emotions can often be regulated by movement.
Fo example, ecstatic dance or authentic movement and yoga are beautiful tools to help calm our nervous systems. Pair that with breathing techniques and we become the alchemists of our body.
If you feel a strong "negative" emotion, move in any way and see how it feels.
Are you breathing short, small breaths. Or are you breathing deep, generating life force from within?
Stretch, as the body releases tension, so does the mind.
Obviously it's not as simple as movement solving all of the issues. But I believe it's the first step to reclaiming our ability to regulate ourself, and therefor step into who we want to be.
For only real change can take place when the danger of the past is relinquished.
Coming from someone who's past still has so much influence over my feeling of safety, which I'm learning to manage, hence talking about this.
I wish you the best in your experience and that you can find tools and tips to live a more fulfilling life.
I ask you to inquire, "what movement is my body asking for?" Don't judge. Just move.
Much Love 💜
