First off our body is a system of adaptation, whatever we do it gets good at. You run? you get better at running. You do fuck all? surprise surprise you get better at doing fuck all...
Ido Portal, Connor McGregors movement coach has always preached such ideas:
Based of this concept are you surprised that you have aches and pains? The body requires movement. If your not teaching your body to move in various way, then what do you think happens when all of a sudden you do some crazy movement you never normally do? Injury. Therefor injury prevention comes in the form of movement. If you explore movement in a wider range, then your body becomes more resilient.
Surly theres a correlation with that and the mind...
Our bodies know whats up, and by that I mean they express our internal state. But also if we express using our bodies, it also reflects in the mind. So we can manipulate our body in a way that is more conducive to a positive mind.
Movement comes in many shapes and sizes, from breath-work to weight lifting, dance to stillness, and they are all tools at our disposal ready to be deployed. We just have to learn how to use them... One of my favourite quotes that Bessel van der Kolk the author of The Body Keeps The Score said illustrates this perfectly:
Through movement practices we can coach our own body to feel safety in different environments. Basically the first steps of rehabilitation and integration for people dealing with trauma. This was and is fundamental for me, movement allowed me to now be putting myself out there. I had to teach myself that I am safe, before I could go out into the world once more.
Easier said than done... But it can be done!
Practically speaking, practices that help you relax are essential, heres some tools:

What are the barriers to movement?
Don't have enough time?
You seem to make time to be stressed, why not make time (10-20mins) to actively relax.
Don't know what to do?

Ill start tomorrow!
No, start now.
We must prove to ourself we actually want to be better to get better. Quit fucking around with the future, and prove it to yourself NOW.
Obviously it's not as simple as movement solving all of the issues. But I believe it's the first step to reclaiming our ability to regulate ourself, and therefor step into who we want to be.
For only real change can take place when the danger of the past is relinquished.
