Note To Self 27.
Im feeling extremely grateful and lucky to be here today. Last night I watched "The Alpinist" which is a movie about a free solo climber Marc-André Leclerc who dedicated his life, literally, to Alpinism (the climbing of high mountains.)
But Marc's approach was from a mindset that almost no one ever reaches. He didn't do it for the accolades of climbing the worlds toughest mountains, he didn't do it to be the best in the world, he simply did it because he loved it. He knew his time on earth was finite and so he simply only did the things he loved and wanted to do, for the sake of doing them. Working a job to fund a life he was only semi-satisfied with (at a push) didn't make sense to him, and so he left all of that and pursued the one thing that truly brought him to life.
The worlds most renown climber Alex Honnold had this to say about Marc's adventures:
This gives me goosebumps and in my eyes is the pinnacle of enlightenment. He climbed because it brought him to the place where he truly saw past all of the bullshit society pushes, past all of the meaningless things that have somehow caught our attention, he climbed because he knew the THIS moment was all he ever really had. He climbed for his adventure in the crazy game we call life. In his words:
Theres so many aspects to Marc's life and mindset that I could talk about for a very long time. But the main point I want to drive home for you reading and myself is that life is fleeting, we are here today with no promise of tomorrow, death is the only certainty about life. Why wait to reach a fucked up place before you make a change? Why wait for a loved one to die before you do the things that deep deep down you know you want to do.
After all the purpose of life is the journey itself so have your adventure. Do the things. Fuck other peoples opinion and back your own. As long as you love who you are that is all that matters. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
We will all one day be gone and all one day reflect on our time here.
